'Tortitude.' is not a slogan. It's a sentence one Tortoiseshell owner said about another Tortoiseshell owner, accurately, in front of a third Tortoiseshell owner who laughed because it was already happening in their own house. We wrote it down, sanded the edges, and put it on 6.1-oz garment-dyed cotton. It is real. UC Davis said so. The tee is the punchline; the breed is the setup; the household is the entire premise. Here's how the design got to be the design.
Where this design came from
The 'Tortitude.' line traces back to a community subreddit's pinned post titled 'things only we are allowed to say about our own breed'. We didn't invent it, we curated it — the Tortoiseshell community had already done the writing, in fragments, across years of comments, posts, captions, and group chats. Our job was to recognize the pattern, settle on the cleanest version of the line, and put it on something you can wear to the vet.
The specific Tortoiseshell quirk this leans on: the tortie has redecorated three orchids without permission this month. The specific archetype of owner this is for: the owner who has already accepted the stereotype and decided to charge admission.
Why this exact line, this exact breed
Generic pet humor — 'I love my dog' — has been saturated since approximately 2008. The Etsy ocean has swallowed all of it. Breed-specific humor, specifically the identity cross-cut of breed-specific humor, is less saturated and more fun to write.
That's why we structured the catalog around the breed × archetype matrix. Each tee occupies a small Venn corner of the Tortoiseshell rack, and the matrix as a whole spans most of the actual variation in pet ownership styles.

About the tee itself
For the practical part: the 'Tortitude' design prints on all three Snarkpaws blanks — Bella+Canvas 3001 if you want a slimmer ringspun fit, Gildan 64000 if you want the lightest weight at the entry price, and Comfort Colors 1717 if you want the heritage heavyweight with the garment-dyed wash. Sized S through 2XL. Unisex cut on all three. Same print, three different shirts under it.
We default to recommending Comfort Colors 1717 for this design because the halftone print sits more cleanly on a garment-dyed ground than on a piece-dyed white — the slight wash on the fabric absorbs the print into the cotton instead of letting it sit on top of it. If you're buying as a gift for the Tortoiseshell owner in your life, that's the safest pick. If they already own a stack of Comfort Colors from their thrift-store rotation, they will recognize the blank and not have to ask.
Printed on demand, US fulfillment, 3–5 business days from order to ship. Free U.S. shipping over $50 — which is one Comfort Colors plus tax, basically. Returns open for 30 days, no questions about sizing if the fit isn't right.
